Hi, I'm Petru
Dad, software engineer, tinkerer and part-time household admin.
I thought of writing a short and punchy story about why I started building Pluckie, but I just could not capture the tedium and medium I have to handle daily. So here goes nothing:
My days are packed with notifications from multiple channels - apps, face-to-face, emails etc. I have to pay forward the important ones, one way or another:
- add a todo here
- save note there
- remember to buy that
- add some event in the calendar and set notifications for it
- email myself some document I must keep accessible - i usually lose it in my gdrive 😓
- store some information in a photo (i will extract text later)
- so on and so forth…
I share the grocery shopping list with my better half over whatsapp: each item is a message, so I can 👍 what I bought, but if we start messaging between ourselves then I need to go back in the timeline 🙄.
The kids school sends announcements that there is a reading breakfast this day or that day, or that we need to dress the kids with a particular color to celebrate something. Or that there is some fundraise at the gate - and I must remember to carry cash with me. And not to mention the ClassDojo stream. Or MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) app. Or the parents' Whatsapp group. Or their friends' birthday parties. Multiply that with 2 kids. Ok, you get the idea.
Some things MUST go in my calendar - because I need to query it later if I am available that weekend or that afternoon. Or I need to be reminded about. Not to mention the times when we buy afterschool clubs - it’s like Glastonbury when they release the tickets.
Ah, and the ClassDojo app asks me to upgrade and pay to integrate it in my calendar.
I don’t want all the calendar events available in my calendar either. But some of them I do. Sigh.
Did I tell you that my kids' school term is in a PDF on their website?
Someone told me about a great movie over coffee. I forgot it anyhow, the name was in French. Then I whatsapped my friend about it and he texted the name back. It was a good movie.
Have I told you my wife told me not to forget to buy blueberry&apple flavoured oats, salami milano, some berries (unspecified), yoghurt and she also told me we’re out of something but I forgot already. I wish I had left a voice message to myself when she told me.
Ah, life. And this firehose I want to sort out with Pluckie.
